Institutions and the Legitimacy of the State
USAID hosted the “Poverty Reduction in Conflict and Fragile States: Institutions and State Legitimacy" symposium on April 2, 2008 to discuss current international thought on the requisite of state legitimacy for transforming unstable countries into more prosperous and stable societies. Hernando de Soto delivered the keynote speech.

Meeting with President of Ukraine
28.03.2008 17:17 Press office of President Victor Yushchenko.- President Victor Yushchenko met today with the President of the Institute for Liberty and Democracy, Hernando de Soto. During the conversation Victor Yushchenko said to Mr. de Soto that Ukraine is highly interested in Latin America countries experience in overcoming economic crises, realization of anti-inflation policy, fighting money laundering and shady economy.
From his part Mr. de Soto affirmed readiness of the Institute to provide consultations about implementation of economic reforms to the Ukrainian side. The parties also discussed current social and economic situation in Ukraine.
